HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR BOOKS

Reading a book is one thing and remembering it even after 10 years of reading it is the other. We often take our books for granted, the time we spent reading it and the energy it took to complete it. We might remember the plot of the book, but will it really matter? Is it benefiting you for a long term? Was every penny you spent on it is fully taken the advantage of? What we forget while we are reading a book is that the story or the plot of a book is just meant to hold our attention, that we often do not pay to the books that are not plot based. We call them boring and uninteresting. Okay, fair enough. But is the book which is plot based being read by you with your attention on the beauty of its literature, its usage of words and of the phrases? Are you paying attention just on the story as it goes on and not on the new words that you might learn?
Well, the general answer is no, you actually don't. We often forget that it took more time of the author to frame appropriate sentences and use a standardized vocabulary in the book's pages than to frame a plot. So, some other things need our attention too.
Here I have listed some tips and tricks to drink of every penny you have spent on your books!

Start Underlining the Difficult Words.
This might not sound good for the safety of your beloved books, but, believe me, a pencil can be very helpful! In the middle of reading a book, whenever you find a word that you have never heard of, just underline it. Keep on underlining all the difficult words that you read. At the end of a chapter, just sit with a dictionary and find the meanings of the words.

Underline Phrases and Meaningful Sentences.
You might find some phrases that are attractive and you should underline them too. Underline famous or beautiful sentences/quotes/sayings that you find.

Always Keep A Book Near You.
Even if you don't read it, just have one beside you always. 5 minutes of free time can be very time saving for you.

Keep Your Books and Shelves Clean.
You won't notice when your favorite book will be ruined. Once a week, CLEANING AND DUSTING IS A MUST.

Don't Overread.
Overreading leads to jumbling and messing up of the stuff that you have already read. Read as much as you want, just don't read two things at a time.

Find More Information About Your Book.
After you are done reading it, find some articles about your book on the net. This enhances your knowledge about the book and would also help you remove your book hangover.

Just love your books and don't take them for granted!

Until next time,
Priya
